These two prints are by Mizuno Toshikata [水野年方] (1866-1908) from the series Thirty-six Beauties Compared Sanjûroku Kasen [三十六佳撰]. They show bijin (beautiful women) from historic Japanese eras. The one on the left is number 25, Sunset: Lady in Keian era [1648-51] Yûyô, Keian koro fujin [夕陽 慶安頃婦人], and the one on the right is number 11, Chrysanthemum Viewing: Women of the Kanpô Era [1741-44] Kikumi, Kanpô koro fujin [菊見 寛保頃婦人].
This is a triptych by Utagawa Yoshimori [歌川芳盛] (1830-c1884) of The Conquest of Ôshû by Lord Minamoto Yoshiie Minamoto Yoshiie Ason Ôshû seibatsu no zu [源義家朝臣奥羽征伐之図]. Minamoto was a clan samurai of the late Heian period who became something of a paragon of samurai skill and bravery.
